Didn't really bother me in games or daily usage but then. GSync works like a charm - I tested it in Portal 1, when you enter the elevators for next area, the straight light lines are great to test it out (I found out I needed to set a max fps below 240 to make it work properly)īUT the scanlines where there, specially in "full color" things (orange, red, blue.) and in top part of screen.

Flickering is 100% solved after firmware update - it was 1007.something out of the box, now 1009.3 Backlight bleed is very little - much better than my old IPS (AW2720HF) My G7 27 inch arrived about a week ago, and I did know about all the issues, I've researched A LOT before buying this (700USD isn't something you just throw away).įortunately I was blessed with a very decent unit: The aforementioned issues annoy me more because they exist, not because they affect me.

But it more than excels at raw speeds across the whole refresh rate range, which is important for console and PC gaming on the same panel, it displays vibrant colors with decent contrast, and it is very customizable to do slight adjustments on a game per game basis via the OSD menu. In my personal opinion i have to say: yes, this is a monitor with many little and less little problems, and if what you're after is color accuracy i wouldn't pick it. The latest firmware now is 1009.3 for quite some time now, i'd be inclined to say "thats it". This seems to imply that the panel is on the edge of what it can do before failing as Samsung has pushed it to the limit. Both also have issues displaying certain shades of colors uniformly, but between the two there is a slight difference in which color shades are affected and how severe.Ĭommunity research has shown that the dark and light scanline issue stems from a combination of black level and sharpening, and is much less visible or even not there at all when the panel is set to 144 Hz. I have two G7s side by side now, and they both share the same issue with the scanlines appearing on aforementioned conditions.
There is no fix other than to play the panel lottery. Update on 19th March 2021: i see there is still quite a lot of life in this thread and yeah, the problems have not been fixed as of now. While my sample size is small, this seems to be a general issue with this device and not limited to a select few. And the scanlines are exactly the same, too, triggered from the same content in the same areas.
The previous one was not, which is oddly enough. No change apart from a better panel with less backlight bleed and this unit being shown as Gsync compatible in the driver. Update on 2nd October 2020: got my replacement G7.
I fell in love with the panel due to its performance in both 240 Hz pc gaming as well as 60 Hz console gaming. I am considering to return the G7, but it would be a shame to give up on it. I'll try to do my best to give it to you!

You should have your Windows scaling as well as the browser window itself set to 100%.

You should have your monitor running at full 1440p, 32bits RGB and 8 bit color depth. You should have your G7 set to 240 Hz (lower refresh rates express the issue too, but less the lower the set refresh rate is) and run it via displayport. It would seem the panel crashes somewhat when trying to display these faint raster-like images. It also happens in some games in very specific locations, with certain camera angles, graphics settings and so on.
These are out of game ways to trigger the issue for me. Bonus points if you also view this GIF ( ) on the left or right side of your monitor. Please do me a favor and visit the Asus Rog wallpaper page ( ) on your 27" or 32" G7. So here goes: Scanlines appearing across the entire screen / brightness dimming and pixel rows becoming visible when certain conditions are met, with a very faint coil whine from the monitor becoming audible, too. No, this is about something else that i want to check, to see of it is just my unit or yet another G7 bug, as i am gathering up all issues to try and see if my retailer can push a note to Samsung or something. I think we've beaten the gsync / freesync flicker horse to death, revived it and beat it to death again - yes, my 32" Odyssey G7 has sync flicker issues, on top of Gsync not really working anyway, as there is still tearing visible in the pendulum demo.
